This is the Via dei Monti, known in the Val di Vara and Lunigiana as the Via de Pontremolo. Through the project ``From Levanto to Brugnato along the ancient paths of pilgrims and merchants,`` funded by the Compagnia San Paolo Foundation of Turin, the aim was to restore and enhance the ancient route, which, along its path, encounters, just as it did in the past, parish churches, abbeys, castles, towers, and villages rich in history. Thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Zignago and the Union of the Municipalities of Lunigiana, it was possible to reopen the entire route from Levanto to Pontremoli.

[/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content_no_spaces”][vc_column]

Levanto - As the founder of the ISCUM (Institute for the History of Material Culture) in 1976, he was a renowned archaeologist and lecturer at the University of Genoa. Thanks to a long excavation campaign conducted near Pieve di Zignago, in the province of La Spezia, the remains of a village first documented in 1273 were brought to light, located along the medieval path of the Via dei Monti or de Pontremolo. Further research carried out in Levanto also allowed for the reconstruction of the canal port dating back to the mid-1200s and the original merchant village.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content_no_spaces”][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_masonry_media_grid element_width=”3″ gap=”0″ initial_loading_animation=”fadeIn” grid_id=”vc_gid:1768987023031-2e7d1666-39fd-9″ include=”3083,3082,3051,3116,3124,3120,3118,3110,3126,3114,3108,3107,3780,3918,3925,3920,3922,3472,3496,3468,3500,3480,3498,3520″ css=”.vc_custom_1697009187058{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content_no_spaces”][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1547726078063{padding-top: 80px !important;padding-bottom: 45px !important;}” el_id=”about”][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner offset=”vc_col-lg-offset-2 vc_col-lg-8 vc_col-md-offset-1 vc_col-md-10 vc_col-sm-offset-0″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content_no_spaces”][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”fadeInUp” css=”.vc_custom_1693211674512{padding-top: 140px !important;padding-bottom: 140px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″ css=”.vc_custom_1506975333742{margin-top: 40px !important;}”][vc_custom_heading text=”Next to the walking route, it is possible to cover the Levanto – Pontremoli stretch in either direction by mountain bike.
